PHRN EDUCATION AND TRAINING UNIT

The Education and Training Unit of the Population Health Research Network (PHRN) is a centralised training centre that responds to the education and training needs of PHRN members and supports researchers utilising linked data.

The Education and Training Unit primarily seeks to increase the quality of data linkage and researcher skills to ensure the integrity and security of data.

The Education and Training Unit operates out of the National Program Office and is responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of a national training program covering all aspects of data linkage relevant to:

  • Technical data linkers
  • Researchers
  • Data custodians
  • Human Research Ethics Committees.

The Unit will offer a suite of training workshops as well as provide links to existing trainings nationally and internationally endorsed by the PHRN. Training will be offered in a variety of formats including face-to-face workshops and online training.

PRIORITY AREAS

The priority areas for the PHRN Education and Training Unit include:

  • Supporting the development of online training for researchers wishing to access data through the SURE (Secure Unified Research Environment).  Researchers will be required to successfully complete this training in order to receive linked data from SURE
  • National roll out of Consumer and Community Engagement Training for all PHRN members
  • The development of training for Human Research Ethics Committee members on the technical aspects of data linkage and key ethical considerations pertaining to data linkage
  • The development of educational workshops for data custodians.

Develop your skills with FREE online health workshops
Four free, online workshops are now available from the Education and Training Unit of Population Data BC as part of their mandate to serve the needs of researchers, analysts and practitioners.
The workshops have been redesigned from their original inceptions as in-class workshops to an online format in order to broaden knowledge mobilisation in the following topic areas.
• Administrative Data 101
• Spatial Epidemiology
• GIS and Epidemiology
• Introduction to Space-Time Disease Surveillance

Consumer and Community Participation: A training workshop on implementing participation

Aim
This one day workshop will provide participants with a range of skills and knowledge that aims to improve their ability and confidence to work with consumers and community members. Primarily, participants will learn:
    To understand the principles of consumer and community participation in organisational development; and
    How to begin planning and implementing consumer and community participation in all aspects of your nodes activities
