PHRN is being renamed to Data Connect Australia

The Population Health Research Network (PHRN) is pleased to share that it will soon be changing its name to Data Connect Australia.

For more than 16 years, PHRN has enabled world-class data linkage and research infrastructure across Australia. It has built data-linkage capabilities, secure environments and partnerships that allow research to deliver real public impact.

While its origins are in health research, PHRN’s role has evolved significantly. Today, it sits at the heart of Australia’s national data ecosystem, connecting researchers, institutions and jurisdictions across disciplines. Its work has expanded well beyond where it started, and its name should reflect that.

Changing its name to Data Connect Australia recognises what PHRN does and the role it plays in data linkage.

Why Data Connect Australia?

Data Connect Australia captures what PHRN does and why it matters: creating connections between data, people and institutions that make world-class research possible. It reflects a belief that better-connected data leads to better outcomes for all Australians, and positions PHRN as Australia’s trusted partner in data linkage infrastructure.

What stays the same

PHRN’s purpose, people and commitment to data linkage and research remain unchanged. The trust placed in PHRN over the past 16 years is the foundation Data Connect Australia is built on.

Timeline

PHRN will begin a soft launch of the new name during the NCRIS 20-Year Celebrations in June, followed by a phased transition and rollout, with a formal public launch planned later in 2026.

Alignment with strategic planning

PHRN is undertaking a national consultation to develop its 2027–2036 Strategic Plan. Launching the new name ahead of the strategy signals its future direction and aligns its identity with a long-term vision: a more connected, national data infrastructure that supports research excellence and public impact.

Thank you for your continued support as PHRN is renamed Data Connect Australia.
