Celebrating Clinical Trials Day

A new generation of linked data tools is transforming the future of clinical trials in Australia.

Through the Trial Link project, we’re building a national integrated gateway designed to make linked health data easier to discover, access and use for clinical trials and medical product development. By improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of data linkage, we’re helping researchers and industry unlock the full potential of Australia’s world-class data assets.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s underway:

ABS PRICE CALCULATOR
Launched this week, the ABS price calculator enables researchers to generate instant price estimates for data linkage projects. Here’s what researchers are saying:

“Useful, very useful for grant and project planning to have these kinds of tools.”
“This is great.”
“All very, very easy.”

CLINICAL TRIALS TRAINING
Available now, our new free online training for clinical trialists that launched last week, is already receiving strong feedback, with 100% participants saying they would recommend it to their peers. Find out more

DATA ACCESS PATHWAYS EXPLORER TOOL
Coming in June, this new tool will help researchers better navigate linked data access pathways with greater clarity and confidence.

SAMPLESCOPE TOOL – PILOT
Coming soon, our SampleScope tool will enable researchers to query linked population-level administrative data (in participating jurisdictions) to estimate how many people meet their study criteria. It’s designed to strengthen feasibility assessments, refine study design, and better support research planning.

CROSS-LINK GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK
We’re co-designing a national governance framework to support enduring linkage between clinical registries and administrative datasets — while maintaining strong legal, ethical and privacy protections. Learn more about CROSS-Link

Together, these initiatives represent a major step toward making linked data more discoverable, accessible, and impactful for Australia’s clinical trials ecosystem.
