The removal of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes is one method of reducing the risk of breast cancer in women who are BRCA (breast cancer gene) positive. This study investigated whether this approach is beneficial for women actually diagnosed with breast cancer. The researchers found that the risk reducing surgery benefited premenopausal women with breast cancer but showed no benefit for postmenopausal women wit h breast cancer. How did the PHRN infrastructure help? The Data Linkage Queensland (DLQ) linked the Queensland cancer and hospital data collections, as well as death registrations for the research team to analyse.
