Data is not a dirty word

Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Human Services, wants to make the Department of Human Services administrative data available to researchers to inform evidence-based policies. Senator Carr said: ''I want to open up that information [Department of Human Services data] to researchers who can find patterns. For example I would like to know what type of medical admissions take place ahead of applications for child support. If we knew that, we would know where to best direct resources before they were needed.''
