PHRN to receive $23.8M in additional funding

In the May 2018 budget, the Australian Government announced a further $19.5 million in PHRN NCRIS funding for the period July 2019 to June 2023.  This is a continuation of existing NCRIS funding with indexation.  In addition, the Minister for Education and Training, Minister Simon Birmingham, announced on 15 May 2018, that $4.4 million in new funding will be invested in the PHRN.  The new funding which includes over $2 million for capital investment was announced as part of the Government Response to the 2016 Roadmap for National Research Infrastructure.

The additional funding gives PHRN a planning horizon of five years, the longest in our history.  We will shortly commence consultation with PHRN Participants and others on investment priorities over this period.

“This is fantastic news, and the PHRN is extremely grateful for the wonderful support provided by Australian Government through NCRIS” said PHRN Chief Executive, Dr Merran Smith.

Data linkage has a significant role in reduction of cervical cancer in Australia. The HPV vaccine was introduced in 2007, success of the vaccine was monitored by linking vaccine registers to cervical smear registers in Queensland & Victoria.
