PHRN Board member, Professor Anna Nowak has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), UWA

Professor Nowak was the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVCR at the UWA before participating in an international search where she was confirmed as the candidate to lead UWA’s research activities in the capacity of DVCR. Professor Nowak’s previous role was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health and Medical Research) with responsibility for academic leadership of the University’s Health and Medical Research.

A UWA graduate (MBBS 1991, PhD 2003) with an academic background in medical oncology, Professor Nowak has longstanding research and clinical interests in malignant mesothelioma and neuro-oncology. She worked as a teaching and research academic in the Medical School, a medical oncologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) and as Director of the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) at UWA. Her contributions to research have been recognised with both national and international awards. Professor Nowak has a strong service record; previous roles include Deputy Executive Dean, Associate Dean for Research, board member of the Cancer Council WA, Chair, Co-Operative trials Group for Neuro-Oncology, and member of Research Infrastructure Boards (PHRN, IMOS, Raine Study). She also holds a Master of Leadership and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
