It is a strategic objective of the Population Health Research Network (PHRN) to improve the efficiency of data linkage processes with the ultimate goal of linking data to improve the wellbeing of all Australians. The current one-off, project by project approach to cross-jurisdictional linkages is very inefficient. The PHRN have funded several projects to progress from ad hoc cross-jurisdictional linkage to routine and enduring linkage.

The current project proposes further steps towards providing a more efficient means of securely linking records across the Australian Government and jurisdictional data sources. It will also provide an essential foundational capability to support the work of the Australian National Data Integration Infrastructure (ANDII), a national infrastructure which will underpin a range of national data assets including the National Disability Data Asset (NDDA).

The aims of the project include:

1. Identifying the governance requirements for sharing and updating linkage spines, maps and files
2. Agreeing an approach to synchronisation of linkage spines, maps and files
3. Completing preliminary technical development to enable routine and enduring cross-jurisdictional linkage
