As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to recognise and thank Professor Ian Smith as he prepares to conclude his tenure as Chair of the PHRN Board on 31 December.
Joining our Board in 2017 and stepping into the Chair role in 2020, Ian guided us through one of the most challenging periods in recent history—the COVID-19 pandemic. His steady leadership ensured continuity and resilience during uncertain times.
Ian has also made a lasting contribution to national and international collaboration, including the establishment of the NCRIS Health Group and strengthening relationships with our European counterparts. These achievements will continue to shape our work for years to come.
Incoming Chair Professor Nicholas Fisk said: “Professor Smith’s unique background spanning business and research was instrumental in driving innovation and strengthening industry collaboration to support data linkage research and improve health outcomes.”
Now Professor Emeritus at Monash University, Ian continues to contribute as a consultant, board director, and chair of multiple national and international government and non-government advisory boards.
Please join us in celebrating Professor Ian Smith and thanking him for his remarkable service. We wish him every success in the next chapter!
